O Regulamento Anti Desfloresta\u00e7\u00e3o da Uni\u00e3o Europeia (EUDR) \u00e9 uma iniciativa crucial da UE para combater a desfloresta\u00e7\u00e3o global e proteger a biodiversidade. Este regulamento imp\u00f5e restri\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e0 coloca\u00e7\u00e3o e importa\u00e7\u00e3o de produtos no mercado europeu que estejam ligados \u00e0 desfloresta\u00e7\u00e3o ou degrada\u00e7\u00e3o florestal, promovendo cadeias de abastecimento mais sustent\u00e1veis e respons\u00e1veis.<\/p>\n

Ao promover o consumo de produtos \u201cn\u00e3o provenientes da desfloresta\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d e ao reduzir o impacto da UE na desfloresta\u00e7\u00e3o e na degrada\u00e7\u00e3o florestal a n\u00edvel mundial, espera-se que o novo regulamento reduza as emiss\u00f5es de gases com efeito de estufa e a perda de biodiversidade.<\/p>\n

Setores abrangidos<\/strong><\/p>\n

O EUDR impacta v\u00e1rios setores, incluindo madeira, papel, borracha, \u00f3leo de palma, caf\u00e9, cacau, soja, entre outros. The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is a crucial EU initiative to combat global deforestation and protect biodiversity. This regulation imposes restrictions on the placement and import of products on the European market that are linked to deforestation or forest degradation, promoting more sustainable and responsible supply chains.<\/p>\n

By promoting the consumption of \u2018non-deforestation\u2019 products and reducing the EU’s impact on global deforestation and forest degradation, the new regulation is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity loss.<\/p>\n

Sectors covered<\/strong><\/p>\n

The EUDR impacts several sectors, including wood, paper, rubber, palm oil, coffee, cocoa, soya, among others. Companies that deal with these products have an obligation to ensure that their supply chains are free of deforestation.<\/p>\n

However, the EUDR does not affect responsible agriculture and agroforestry and is flexible towards the use of land for these purposes.<\/p>\n

The application of the EUDR requires a transition period for companies to adapt to the new requirements. Large companies will have 18 months to implement the new rules, while micro and small companies have an additional six months. This adaptation period will allow for better preparation and more effective alignment with the obligations established by the regulation.<\/p>\n

Although the regulation is an important step towards protecting the environment, its application brings several challenges, especially in complex value chains. For example, in the paper sector, where raw materials from different origins are often mixed, ensuring product traceability will be a crucial factor in complying with the new rules. The impact of the EUDR will be felt on a global scale, since many of the products covered are widely exported to the European market.
