{"id":15090,"date":"2024-06-04T07:00:17","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T07:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ruydelacerda.pt\/esg-governance-code-its-importance-for-smes\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T15:03:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T15:03:29","slug":"esg-governance-code-its-importance-for-smes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ruydelacerda.pt\/en\/esg-governance-code-its-importance-for-smes\/","title":{"rendered":"ESG Governance Code \u2013 Its Importance for SMEs"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"15090\" class=\"elementor elementor-15090 elementor-15081\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-3a875029 elementor-section-full_width elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default qodef-elementor-content-no\" data-id=\"3a875029\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-22ee66ef\" data-id=\"22ee66ef\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cba7d75 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cba7d75\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>(English Below) \ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\uddf9<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember53\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">O tema da Sustentabilidade tem vindo a ter uma evolu\u00e7\u00e3o l\u00f3gica, desde os tempos dos chamados 3P (People-Planet-Profit) acompanhando mais recentemente a 4\u00aa Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o Industrial (I4.0), num conceito que representa a automa\u00e7\u00e3o industrial e a integra\u00e7\u00e3o de diferentes tecnologias como o da intelig\u00eancia artificial (IA), rob\u00f3tica (esta j\u00e1 bem presente), internet das coisas e clouds, tudo com o objetivo de promover a digitaliza\u00e7\u00e3o das atividades, num mundo em \u201cMudan\u00e7a Geracional\u201d com elevada preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o para a l\u00f3gica ESG(a come\u00e7ar pelo pilar Ambiental, mas n\u00e3o s\u00f3), e perante um caminho de inova\u00e7\u00e3o tecnol\u00f3gica em enorme acelera\u00e7\u00e3o, obrigando a um novo posicionamento, num parar para pensar, de profunda reflex\u00e3o, de ajuste na miss\u00e3o ou prop\u00f3sito das empresas, ou seja qual a vis\u00e3o estrat\u00e9gica a seguir!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember54\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">O ESG \u00e9 uma sigla que significa Environmental (E), Social (S) Governance (G) (Ambiental-Social-Econ\u00f3mico), numa proposta da ONU de 2004 e referida no relat\u00f3rio do Banco mundial como \u201cWho Cares Wins\u201d, a ser aplicado na gest\u00e3o das empresas pela utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de crit\u00e9rios socioambientais e econ\u00f3micos, de forma equilibrada, com transpar\u00eancia e \u00e9tica, de uma forma competitiva e a favor da estabilidade presente e futura das empresas! A primeira reflex\u00e3o ter\u00e1 a ver com a estrutura do pr\u00f3prio tecido empresarial que, de uma forma geral a n\u00edvel Europeu \u00e9 constitu\u00eddo por uma larga maioria de PME (at\u00e9 99%) e entre as quais cerca de 65%-80% s\u00e3o fam\u00edlias empres\u00e1rias, muitas vezes esquecidas, sendo as empresas familiares parte essencial do tecido econ\u00f3mico e social da Europa, representando 40%-50% do emprego no sector privado e, hoje, preocupadas com a forma\u00e7\u00e3o dos seus colaboradores, na diversifica\u00e7\u00e3o da suas atividades, pela aposta na inova\u00e7\u00e3o tecnol\u00f3gica e na problem\u00e1tica da sucess\u00e3o, esta tamb\u00e9m a \u201cviver\u201d a problem\u00e1tica demogr\u00e1fica! Tendo em conta a import\u00e2ncia das empresas familiares a pr\u00f3pria Comiss\u00e3o Europeia as leva em considera\u00e7\u00e3o na elabora\u00e7\u00e3o das novas diretrizes do ESG Europeu, nomeadamente na n\u00e3o obrigatoriedade ao n\u00edvel do \u201creporting\u201d, numa primeira fase.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember55\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">A segunda reflex\u00e3o adv\u00e9m da primeira, as PME trabalham ancoradas nas grandes empresas, sendo que estas j\u00e1 est\u00e3o a avan\u00e7ar na nova l\u00f3gica da IA e do ESG, recrutando e \u201cformando\u201d quadros para acompanhar estes novos des\u00edgnios. E aqui, qui\u00e7\u00e1, se encontra um dos \u201cpilares de mudan\u00e7a\u201d, pela obrigatoriedade de forma\u00e7\u00e3o cont\u00ednua ao longo da vida das empresas, forma\u00e7\u00e3o como fator chave na base de conhecimentos que permitir\u00e3o uma abordagem positiva ao tema do C\u00f3digo de Governo (ESG) e at\u00e9 pela natural flexibilidade das PME \u00e0 rea\u00e7\u00e3o, agilidade e ajuste a novos desafios! Porqu\u00ea tantas associa\u00e7\u00f5es empresariais, entidades banc\u00e1rias, universidades e outras Institui\u00e7\u00f5es relevam hoje o tema do ESG? Porque a Comiss\u00e3o Europeia est\u00e1 em fase final de aprova\u00e7\u00e3o das novas diretivas ESG, no \u00e2mbito do Green Deal, com o Banco Central Europeu (BCE) a assumir o compromisso da sustentabilidade, levando a Banca a ser obrigada a exigir \u00e0s grandes empresas \u201creport\u201d de sustentabilidade em 2025, com a banca a ajudar atualmente as PME na prepara\u00e7\u00e3o dos elementos relativos ao ESG, para atribui\u00e7\u00e3o de financiamentos ou penaliza\u00e7\u00e3o na diferencia\u00e7\u00e3o de taxas de juros!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember56\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Dentro de uma Vis\u00e3o Estrat\u00e9gica ESG numa PME ou PME Familiar, para muitas ser\u00e1 o listar de muitas a\u00e7\u00f5es que s\u00e3o pr\u00e1ticas dispersas na \u201ccultura da empresa\u201d, nomeadamente quando em presen\u00e7a de sistemas de qualidade, pol\u00edticas internas ambientais, de responsabilidade social, ou a trabalhar com empresas que a isso j\u00e1 os obrigam!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember57\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Diferente ser\u00e1 interiorizar esse novo \u201cmindset\u201d, de uma forma consistente e continuada, passo a passo, sempre tendo em considera\u00e7\u00e3o os 3 pilares ESG. Interessante analisar que com o Covid e a problem\u00e1tica dos custos energ\u00e9ticos, as empresas optaram por investir em solu\u00e7\u00f5es energ\u00e9ticas renov\u00e1veis, monitoriza\u00e7\u00e3o\u00a0 energ\u00e9tica, investimento em pain\u00e9is fotovoltaicos, mobilidade autom\u00f3vel el\u00e9trica, solu\u00e7\u00f5es inovadoras de gest\u00e3o e sistemas de software de gest\u00e3o industrial, diminui\u00e7\u00e3o no consumo de \u00e1gua e eletricidade, ou pelo tratamento de \u00e1guas residuais, separa\u00e7\u00e3o de res\u00edduos, o Covid trouxe tamb\u00e9m o acelerar da digitaliza\u00e7\u00e3o empresarial, ou seja, estes s\u00e3o exemplos de pol\u00edticas na Sustentabilidade Europeia (ESG)!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember58\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">\u201cTo be, or not to be&#8230; ESG&#8230;That is the question?\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember59\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Num mundo com uma clara \u201cMudan\u00e7a Geracional\u201d, em velocidade acelerada, com novos desafios e novas oportunidades, a prepara\u00e7\u00e3o da empresa para a sustentabilidade \u00e9 um \u201cmust\u201d, uma necessidade ao n\u00edvel de um novo pensar para a empresa, posicionando as pessoas no centro das organiza\u00e7\u00f5es, dando prioridade na aposta cada vez mais exigente pelas preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es ao n\u00edvel da forma\u00e7\u00e3o cont\u00ednua e partilha do conhecimento a n\u00edvel transversal, uma exig\u00eancia ainda maior com intelig\u00eancia artificial, com politicas humanistas, permitindo o envolvimento das equipas ao n\u00edvel decis\u00f3rio, as lideran\u00e7as em pr\u00e1ticas de transpar\u00eancia e verdade pelo exemplo, nas condi\u00e7\u00f5es de trabalho, da massa salarial, pela cria\u00e7\u00e3o de riqueza, dem\u00e9rito e em prol do bem comum, pela preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o sobre o bem estar, flexibilidade laboral e trabalho hibrido, mais focados na concilia\u00e7\u00e3o trabalho-fam\u00edlia, ou, do compromisso de pagamentos pontuais \u00e0 capitaliza\u00e7\u00e3o e valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o de r\u00e1cios positivos de autonomia financeira, s\u00e3o elementos de gest\u00e3o ESG que podem permitir uma imagem da empresa, uma visibilidade positiva com enormes ganhos, sobre um tema em preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o elevada nos dias de hoje, ao n\u00edvel da atra\u00e7\u00e3o e reten\u00e7\u00e3o de talentos, empresas onde as novas gera\u00e7\u00f5es se sintam confort\u00e1veis, participativas na mudan\u00e7a, lado a lado com o conhecimento adquirido daqueles que j\u00e1 \u201cviveram\u201d e, para muitos l\u00edderes empresariais familiares, que j\u00e1 receberam um \u201clegado\u201d da gera\u00e7\u00e3o anterior.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember60\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">&#8211; Utopia ou realismo?<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember61\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Com humanismo, foco, profissionalismo, empenho, transpar\u00eancia, \u00e9tica, inova\u00e7\u00e3o?<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember62\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Vivemos em Portugal, somos portugueses, gostamos de ser europeus e \u00e9 reader-text-block__paragraph\"><strong>Governance Code (ESG) &#8211; The importance for SMEs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"ember69\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The subject of sustainability has been evolving logically since the days of the so-called 3Ps (People-Planet-Profit), and more recently with the 4th Industrial Revolution (I4. 0), in a concept that represents industrial automation and the integration of different technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics (which is already very present), the internet of things and clouds, all with the aim of promoting the digitisation of activities, in a world undergoing &#8220;Generational Change&#8221; with a high level of concern for ESG logic (starting with the Environmental pillar, but not only), and faced with a path of technological innovation that is accelerating enormously, forcing a new positioning, a pause for thought, deep reflection, an adjustment in the mission or purpose of companies, in other words, what strategic vision to follow!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember70\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">ESG is an acronym that stands for Environmental (E), Social (S) Governance (G), in a 2004 UN proposal and referred to in the World Bank report as &#8220;Who Cares Wins&#8221;, to be applied in company management by using socio-environmental and economic criteria, in a balanced, transparent and ethical way, in a competitive manner and in favour of the present and future stability of companies! The first reflection will have to do with the structure of the business fabric itself, which in general at European level is made up of a large majority of SMEs (up to 99%) and among which around 65%-80% are entrepreneurial families, often forgotten, family businesses being an essential part of the economic and social fabric of Europe, representing 40%-50% of employment in the private sector and, today, concerned with the training of their employees, the diversification of their activities, the commitment to technological innovation and the problem of succession, which is also &#8220;living&#8221; the demographic problem! In view of the importance of family businesses, the European Commission itself has taken them into account when drawing up the new European ESG guidelines, in particular by not making reporting compulsory in the first instance.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember71\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">The second reflection stems from the first: SMEs work anchored in large companies, which are already moving forward with the new logic of AI and ESG, recruiting and &#8220;training&#8221; staff to accompany these new designs. And here, perhaps, lies one of the &#8220;pillars of change&#8221;, due to the obligation of continuous training throughout the life of companies, training as a key factor in the knowledge base that will enable a positive approach to the subject of the Code of Governance (ESG) and even the natural flexibility of SMEs to react, be agile and adjust to new challenges! Why are so many business associations, banks, universities and other institutions emphasising the ESG issue today? Because the European Commission is in the final stages of approving the new ESG directives, as part of the Green Deal, with the European Central Bank (ECB) making a commitment to sustainability, leading banks to be obliged to require large companies to &#8220;report&#8221; on sustainability by 2025, with banks currently helping SMEs to prepare elements relating to ESG, in order to allocate funding or penalise interest rate differentiation!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember72\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">Within an ESG Strategic Vision in an SME or Family SME, for many it will be the listing of many actions that are dispersed practices in the &#8220;company culture&#8221;, namely when in the presence of quality systems, internal environmental policies, social responsibility, or working with companies that already oblige them to do so!<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember73\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">It will be different to internalise this new mindset consistently and continuously, step by step, always taking into account the 3 ESG pillars. ESG&#8230; That is the question?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"ember75\" class=\"ember-view reader-text-block__paragraph\">In a world with a clear &#8220;Generational Change&#8221;, at accelerated speed, with new challenges and new opportunities, preparing the company for sustainability is a &#8220;must&#8221;, a necessity in terms of new thinking for the company, placing people at the centre of organisations, prioritising an increasingly demanding commitment to continuous training and knowledge sharing across the board, an even greater demand for artificial intelligence, humanist policies, allowing teams to be involved at decision-making level, leadership practices of transparency and truth by example, working conditions, wages, wealth creation, The commitment to making punctual payments, capitalisation and the enhancement of positive financial autonomy ratios are all elements of ESG management that can give the company a positive image and visibility with huge gains, On a subject that is of great concern these days, in terms of attracting and retaining talent, companies where the new generations feel comfortable, participate in change, side by side with the knowledge acquired from those who have already &#8220;lived&#8221;
