Local Production of Hot-Fill Bottles in Fiji : FlexBlow’s

The transition to more sustainable practices is a global goal, but in remote regions like the Fiji Islands, this path demands even more creativity, resilience, and the right technology. In this context, Coca-Cola Europacific found in FlexBlow, represented in Portugal by Ruy de Lacerda, the ideal solution to produce hot-fill bottles locally in an efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly way.

The Challenge of Tropical Production
Fiji’s climate, with high heat and humidity, adds complexity to the production of hot-fill packaging used for non-carbonated drinks such as juices and isotonic beverages. This type of filling requires strict thermal control and highly resistant equipment.
Before this project, Coca-Cola Europacific relied on importing empty bottles from Australia, which involved high logistical costs and significant CO₂ emissions. The need for supply chain stability and a more sustainable solution accelerated the search for an innovative alternative.

FlexBlow : Technology with Flexibility and Local Support
FlexBlow showcased its technology at Drinktec 2022, standing out for its fast size changes, high precision, and flexibility, crucial features for markets with multiple packaging formats. FlexBlow’s established presence in Oceania reinforced Coca-Cola Europacific’s confidence in the reliability of its technical support.
In July 2024, a FlexBlow 4 machine was installed at Coca-Cola Europacific’s facilities in Fiji. The new line began producing hot-fill bottles in a variety of formats, from 20 milliliters to 6 liters, with consistent performance, even under the demanding conditions of the tropical climate.

Tangible Results : Lower Emissions, Greater Efficiency
Local production brought significant benefits: by transporting preforms instead of empty bottles, the company can now ship up to 10 times more units per container. This shift has significantly reduced logistics costs and associated carbon emissions.
Furthermore, by internalizing the production process, Coca-Cola Europacific gained greater quality control and responsiveness to the local market, a key strategic advantage amid growing demand.

A Replicable Example
This success story shows that, with the right partner and suitable technology, it is possible to overcome the challenges of production in remote locations and move towards more sustainable operations. Coca-Cola Europacific is now exploring the expansion of this model to other regions.

At Ruy de Lacerda, we are proud to represent FlexBlow in Portugal, a brand that combines cutting-edge technology with environmental commitment, offering solutions that help our clients become more efficient, agile, and sustainable.
