Ruy de Lacerda and Dreher: A Strong Partnership in Innovation

In the year that both Ruy de Lacerda and Heinrich Dreher Maschinenbau GmbH & Co KG celebrate 75 years of history, our long-standing partner Dreher marks this milestone with the launch of its latest innovation: the DX 60/100 granulator. As a renowned German family-owned company, Dreher is recognized for its reliable and efficient granulators for plastic recycling.

We spoke with Louis Hartel, Dreher’s Sales Director, to explore the company’s innovation and the DX 60/100 granulator’s advantages.

1. Dreher’s Journey and Philosophy

Louis, can you tell us a little about Dreher’s history and how the company has distinguished itself in the granulator market?

The company Dreher is a family-owned business in its third generation with most experienced employees, engineers and technicians. We are a reliable partner for the plastic industry with more than 13.500 granulators world-wide. The term “Made in Germany” is an obligation for us, and we are well known to be experts for more than 75 years in quality, reliability, performance and service. We have a wide range of granulators covering most requirements of our customers. Heavy duty cutting, wet and dry granulation, solid rotors, manufactured out of full steel and the highest quality in granules are typical characteristics of Dreher.

What are the key values and commitments that guide Dreher in manufacturing its equipment?

Ever since we kept our focus on reliability and quality. Reliability in the cutting process in combination with a solid construction leads to a high-quality recycling process. The demands of our customers and the plastics industry in general are growing every day and Dreher sees it as its great challenge to meet these demands at all levels. Even more, to exceed them. To adapt to the constant development of plastics and their processing we need customizing which will be achieved through a high level of flexibility.

How does Dreher balance tradition and innovation in its products?

The balance in tradition and innovation…well, in my opinion, never accept any borders. Free your creativity in mind and ideas. Like Albert Einstein mentioned, “once we accept our limits, we go beyond them”. And this is how it should be. We, Dreher, do have an enormous treasure, full of long-term experiences which we use as energy to go further and further.  We left our comfort zone to explore new opportunities. Having the courage to take new paths.

2. The DX 60/100 Granulator: Technology and Efficiency

The DX 60/100 is one of Dreher’s latest releases, designed to deliver high performance, reliability and safety to operators.

What are the main differentiators of the DX 60/100 compared to other granulators on the market?

The major difference to other granulators is the very easy and safe access to the cutting chamber and knives due to the possibility that the operator or maintenance member can pivot down the complete rotor with its bearings and knives. This reduces the time needed for knives adjustment or knives changes.

Dreher manufactures all rotors from a solid steel bar. How does this choice contribute to the performance and durability of the equipment?

Dreher manufactures ever since all rotors out of a solid bar of steel. Dreher Rotors do not have any welding marks. This makes a Dreher rotor balanced for a lifetime and free of vibration.  Combined with a real helical cut, Dreher granulators have a constant gap between the rotor and stationary knives.

The DX 60/100 produces high-density granules. What are the direct benefits of this factor?

Due to the constant and narrow cutting gap of 0,15 mm Dreher achieves a very high density of the granules and flakes. This, of course, reduces costs for storage and transports and increases a more reliable material flow for all “post-Dreher” processes.

3. Applicability and Versatility

For which types of plastic materials is the DX 60/100 best suited?

The DX 60/100 con be used for many applications in the post-consumer and post- industrial recycling industry.    Actually, all materials and parts coming from the film, blow moulding, thermoforming, and the injection moulding processing.

4. Looking to the Future

What are the next innovations Dreher plans to bring to the market?

What are the next goals to achieve? Well, first, we listen to our customers 😊

Dreher’s commitment to quality and innovation reinforces its position as one of the leading global references in granulator manufacturing. With the DX 60/100, the company reaffirms its dedication to providing high-performance equipment that combines operational efficiency with ease of maintenance and operator safety.
